For those who went through a goth phase in the ’90s, chances are they were indoctrinated by the 1994 film. The Crowstarring the late Brandon Lee as Eric Draven. Based on James O’Barr’s graphic novel, the film series follows a series of murdered victims who all die tragically, but are then resurrected and guided by a crow to seek revenge on their perpetrators.
But first they must go through their heroic transformation, which includes black eyeliner, white makeup, and a leather jacket. Each of them. This crow also apparently possesses the ability to give any person it revives the iconic look of The Rocky Horror Picture Show‘s Dr. Frank-N-Furter.
You may be familiar with the Alex Proyas original, but what about the standalone sequels? Some were released in theaters, some were released straight to video, and there was a short-lived television series. One of the films even starred a young Kirsten Dunst.
With Rupert Sanders’ 2024 reimagining starring Bill Skarsgård and FKA Twigs now in theaters, let’s take a look back at every version of The Crow, from its beginnings to the present.

The Crow (1994)
The Crow tells the story of Eric Draven (Brandon Lee), a guitarist living in crime-ridden Detroit. One night, he and his fiancée Shelly (Sofia Shinas) are brutally murdered by a street gang. A year later, Sarah Mohr (Rochelle Davis), a young friend Eric and Shelly once liked, visits their grave. While he is there, a crow knocks on his grave and resurrects him as an invincible, all-powerful being who hunts a group of criminals working for a gangster named Top Dollar (Michael Wincott). With the help of the crow and Mohr, Draven seeks a rage-fueled quest for revenge.

The Crow II: City of Angels (1996)
Eric Draven is not the only man who got that kiss from a crow on the grave. The following part, The Crow II: City of Angelsis set in LA and has a new victim: Ashe Corven (Vincent Perez), who was killed along with his son by a drug cartel. After the supernatural crow visits his gravestone, the reborn Corven seeks the help of the adult Sarah Mohr (Mia Kirshner) to take murderous revenge on the cartel.

The Crow: Stairway to Heaven (1998 – 1999)
The story of Eric Draven is expanded into a television show that could have been run, so SupernaturalThe Winchester brothers might escape. Mark Dacascos plays Draven in this syndicated adaptation. Instead of seeking vengeance on his killers, he returns to Earth to solve a number of the world’s problems, and the fantasy creatures involved in it. Strange fantasy creatures and stories abound in this year-long series, including an anti-crow in the form of a snake, a clip show, time loops, Rasputin, several crow spirits, and more. In each episode, Eric Draven must help the subjects of the week who surround him or move in the circle of his teenage human girlfriend Sarah Mohr (Katie Stuart). Draven fights for justice to protect the innocent in this mortal world so he can return to Heaven to be with his fiancée Shelly (Sabine Karsenti).

The Crow: Redemption (2000)
The Crow continues his coast-to-coast resurrection tour in this direct-to-video release. This time, he stops in Salt Lake City to find Alex Corvis (Eric Mabius), a felon wrongfully convicted of murdering his girlfriend Lauren (Jodi Lyn O’Keefe). Despite knowing the killer’s characteristics, police frame him. After spending three years on death row, he is given “the chair.” Soon, the Crow brings Corvis back to life. With the help of the Crow and Lauren’s sister Erin (Kirsten Dunst), Corvis must become judge, jury, and executioner by finding out who killed his girlfriend.

The Crow: Evil Prayer (2005)
As if the Crow’s supernatural powers weren’t enough, the goth energy is taken to the extreme by the arrival of the Satanists in this episode. Jimmy Cuervo (Edward Furlong) and his girlfriend Lilly (Emmanuelle Chriqui) are killed by Satanists in a ritual attempt to resurrect the devil. You now understand what’s going on: The Crow taps on Jimmy’s grave and brings him back to life. While Jimmy runs over some Satanists, the cult’s leaders, Luc “Death” Crash (David Boreanaz) and his girlfriend Lola (Tara Reid), try to complete their mission of resurrecting the Antichrist and triumphing over Jimmy. Also appearing in supporting roles are the devilishly delightful Dennis Hopper and Danny Trejo.

The Crow (2024)
Reimagined for the time of the Crows, this 2024 remake follows Eric Draven (Bill Skarsgård) and Shelly (FKA twigs), two ill-fated lovers who meet in an asylum. Shelly unfortunately has a dark past, having witnessed crime boss Vincent Roeg (Danny Huston) kill someone with his demonic powers. Soon, Eric and Shelly are tragically murdered by Roeg and his henchmen. In the afterlife, Eric is given the chance to return to the land of the living and take revenge on Roeg, only to be reunited with Shelly in the afterlife. Guided by the Crow and endowed with invincibility and super strength, Eric sets out to defeat Roeg and end his power once and for all.
