Brand new Xbox consoles are now available for pre-order. We have all the details:
Months after first announcing it at the Xbox Games Showcase 2024 in June, Microsoft has finally set a release date and opened pre-orders for its three new Xbox console variants.
The lineup includes a 2TB Galaxy Black special edition Xbox Series X ($599.99), an all-digital Series X in Robot White ($449.99), and a 1TB Series S in Robot White ($349.99). According to an Xbox Wire post, they’ll officially launch in the US on Tuesday, October 15. And if you’re worried they’ll sell out quickly for the holidays, you can pre-order them from the Microsoft Store starting today (August 21).

The Special Edition Series X is the flashiest of the bunch, with twice the space of the regular model and a speckled lime green on black design. The company said this “celestial effect (represents) thousands of games and millions of players who play on Xbox,” but I’d say that’s kind of stupid too. It comes with an exclusive Xbox Wireless Controller with a green back.

The Robot White Series X is Microsoft’s first console to come without a floppy drive, blurring the line between the Series X and the entry-level Series S console. (You still get more power out of a Series X, though, whatever that means.) It’s $50 cheaper than the standard black version that can play physical games, and comes with a matching controller.
The new 1TB Series S is now just a new color variant; there has already been a 1TB Carbon Black Series S since the fall. Notably, this version seems to be being discontinued: Microsoft said in its announcement that “fans can still buy it.” while stocks last” (emphasis mine) and apparently only from third-party sellers. The Microsoft Store only sells refurbished models.
