The starting grid for the Dutch Grand Prix in Zandvoort, the first Formula 1 race after the obligatory summer break, has been set.
McLaren driver Lando Norris took his fourth pole position in his Formula 1 career before the race in the Netherlands. Local hero Max Verstappen started alongside him on the front row.
Lando Norris takes pole position for the Dutch Grand Prix
The McLarens of Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri set some of the early fastest times in the final part of qualifying, but were overtaken by Red Bull’s Max Verstappen in the final minute of the session – only to get revenge on Verstappen immediately afterwards with a time of 0.356 seconds.
Piastri tried to get back into the front row, but didn’t quite make it.
Norris and Verstappen will start the Dutch Grand Prix on Sunday from the front row.

Qualifying began on a dry track, but one that had to be fitted with rubber tyres. Lewis Hamilton quickly moved to the front of the field, but his Mercedes team-mate George Russell reported an unstable car that was unlikely to make the top 10. The big drama of the session, however, came when Hamilton impeded Sergio Perez on a flying lap – which was immediately investigated – until Perez jumped to the top of the table at the end of the session.
Things went downhill for Hamilton in Q2 when he was eliminated from qualifying. Carlos Sainz also failed to make it past the elimination zone.
After a serious accident in qualifying, Logan Sargeant did not qualify. His Williams car was simply too badly damaged. The team will work to repair his car for race day.
