Welcome to the Venom War! You get a symbiote, you get a symbiote, EVERYONE GETS A SYMBIOTE! And we couldn’t be more ecstatic. When Poisonous #1 is a hint of what to expect in the rest of the episodes, we’re in for one hell of a ride. The book opens with the tone of familiar wartime greed disguised as innovation or protection. Everything is going well for our dear investors… until it’s not. While Natasha and Sliver wait in the wings, waiting to spring open like a bear trap in the woods, they soon discover that these are not your father’s symbiotes!
As widow into action, all hell breaks loose, led by Luciano Vecchio’s art. At times, I felt like I was a kid again, mesmerized by how larger than life the characters seemed to be. Fight scenes, poses, facial expressions, etc.; Vecchio captures the essence of superheroes and villains alike amazingly, regardless of their title. Combined with Vecchio’s art, Rachelle Rosenberg’s visual buffet is reminiscent of the classic superhero comics. Larger than life characters with bold colors that seem to jump off the page…how could you not love them and crave more? Erica Shultz is back to doing Erica Shultz stuff. How can I get more of Natasha and Sliver?! I loved their relationship and seeing Natasha and Sliver interact again when widow reminiscent of the incredibly intimate relationship between symbiote and host. The Venom War may be over, but we need more of it Widow!
