Thrifty shopper shares his excitement after finding a high-quality household appliance on an online marketplace: “I still can’t believe it”

Finding quality items at the thrift store is every shopper’s dream. One lucky shopper found an expensive vacuum cleaner for a fraction of the price.

In a post on r/ThriftStoreHauls, a Redditor shared his fabled find, a Miele vacuum cleaner. The thrift store owner shared a photo of the white upright vacuum and said he was thrilled to snag the item, but at such an affordable price, he was doubtful of its authenticity.

"Wow, that's an incredible result!"

The OP explained, “I actually bought this on Craigslist but wanted to share anyway. Thought it was a fake post but reached out anyway. This thing purrs like a kitten – my carpets look like new.”

Miele is a high-end vacuum cleaner brand with good reviews. Several of their models have made it onto best-of lists, including the New York Times Wirecutter. This model seems to be made specifically for pet owners, and while it’s out of stock, there are several cat and dog vacuums available ranging in price from $679 to $1,259. Those prices mean that this thrifty shopper got this item at over 90% off.

Secondhand shopping on sites like Craigslist, Facebook Marketplace, and OfferUp is a great way to find incredible deals on home goods, appliances, and more right in your neighborhood. This app and online retailers like ThredUp make it easier to find used items at a fraction of their original price. If you swap out just half of your clothing purchases, you can save around $100 per year.

According to EcoWatch, the secondhand market has grown tremendously in recent years, overtaking traditional retail. ThredUp’s Resale Report found that the “US secondhand market is expected to reach $70 billion by 2027.” They also found that consumers consistently choose to buy secondhand for ethical reasons and “47% of Gen Z refuse to buy from unsustainable clothing brands and retailers.”

This sustainability movement was sparked by the inferior quality of items in many fast-fashion stores as well as ethical concerns about the environment and human rights during the production process.

Other bargain hunters on Reddit were impressed by this find.

“Wow, that’s an incredible result!” wrote one commenter, to which the OP replied, “I still can’t believe it.”

Another person said: “I don’t have any carpets and I would have bought it anyway!”
