Roses are red, violets are blue… what is Behr’s color of the year for 2025? In a sea of all-time favorite blues, Behr surprises at the 6th annual COTY with a fun and sophisticated shade you didn’t know was missing from your home. Inspired by fashion and nostalgia, the brand presents a dynamic, mood-changing red selection from its core color collection.
Get to know Behr’s Color of the Year 2025: Rumors (MQ1-15). The striking shade adds both an element of energy and luxury, as well as a feeling of warmth and intimacy. The shade’s rich red tones give it a bold and powerful quality, while its subtle brown undertones add an earthy note.
“We chose this colour because it has this wonderful balance of warmth and vitality,” says Erika Woelfel, Vice President of Color and Creative Services at BEHR Paint. “It’s captivating and very expressive and can be paired with many colors you already have in your home.” In an effort to reinvent the old-fashioned jewel color, Woelfel recommends using Rumors for small pops of color, such as a fireplace, cabinets, wainscoting or furniture pieces, or dousing a room with it for a more traditional, moody look.
“Our Color of the Year gives consumers the power to use color with confidence,” says Andy Lopez, senior vice president and director of marketing at Behr Paint. “Rumors is undoubtedly a color that inspires creativity while being versatile enough to transform a space through projects big and small.”
From fashion to art, a splash of red is known to draw attention and catch the eye like no other color. “It’s a very approachable red. Not too bright cherry or candy apple red, the color is more nuanced,” says Woelfel, who notes that the shade is a nostalgic nod to 1990s kitchens and dining rooms with red walls, but in a reinterpreted way.
Whether you’re decorating a powder room or foyer with ruby red, or want to stand out with a red entry door, Rumors (MQ1-15) is sure to make an impression and add a sense of elegance to any space. “We’re so into neutrals that it’s easy to bring in a color like this to complement and harmonize,” says Woelfel. “Rumors helps create a more captivating and energetic atmosphere because it pairs well with white and black, as well as warm neutrals.”
Sold exclusively at The Home Depot, Rumors (MQ1-15) is part of the BEHR 2025 Color Trends Palette – a collection of shades ranging from cool tones to warm earth tones.
Fall seems like the perfect time to give a room in your home a new look with this bold hue.
