Spider-Man is a major face of Marvel Comics and has given us some iconic storylines over the years. Many fans also consider him the unofficial mascot of the superhero company. But unfortunately, the character has been subjected to one of the worst comic book treatments a superhero has ever received. The Amazing Spiderman Series.
Zeb Wells’ The Amazing Spiderman The series was heavily criticized for its creative choices. In particular, the approach to portraying MJ’s love life was hated by most fans. When the preview for issue #56 was just released, readers openly admitted that the comic has reached a new low and “pathetic” at best.
The Amazing Spiderman Comic series handled the relationship between MJ and Peter poorly
The relationship between Peter Parker and Mary Jane Watson is one of the highlights of Spider-Man history. Zeb Wells’ comic book series made one of the biggest mistakes when they abandoned these characters after the infamous One more day history. As if that wasn’t enough, she was even set up with Paul Rabin, whom she had met in another reality, Earth-TRN1023.
Paul Rabin, first introduced in The Amazing Spider-Man Volume 6 #1 is the son of the villain Benjamin Rabin of Earth-TRN1023. Due to a time dilation between the alternate reality and Earth-616, MJ and Paul spent 4 years together until Peter brought her back. However, much to the dismay of readers, Paul and MJ continued their relationship even after moving to Earth-616.
Zeb Wells’ handling of MJ’s love life has led many fans to believe that the writer harbors some sort of hatred for our beloved wall-climber. Although fans know that Peter Parker was deeply hurt by MJ’s relationship with Paul, the creators have repeatedly tried to prove that everything is fine. But the preview for #56 has crossed all the lines, as it looks like another weak attempt to make us believe that Peter, MJ, and Paul are on very good terms.

The comic panel where Peter, MJ and Paul are seen in the same place was found to be terribly awkward and painful by fans. The tension between the trio is very palpable in this scene. Most fans have also admitted that it was the poor writing that brought Paul’s character so much hate.
Fans can no longer stand the terrible dynamic between MJ and Paul
Since the preview of issue 56 was released to readers, fans have taken over X to vent their disappointment with Zeb Wells’ comic book series. A large portion of the fanbase even agreed that Paul’s character is only being introduced as a weapon against the fans and has no real purpose in the story.
While most fans are still waiting for Peter Parker and MJ to get back together in some way, many others have given up and are simply hoping that the story will end soon.
Yes, I hate that.

This is such a horrible sight – another pathetic attempt to convince readers that there was no *bad history* between Peter, MJ and Paul this season, that “we read this season *wrong*”. So much incompetence…

Considering how Ultimate Spider-Man is going. Just get Pete and MJ back together in this run. We’ll never like Paul. Fuck off, Marvel.

They don’t think this is normal at all. They must be doing this on purpose because they hate Peter.

I’m not even mad, because for this comic, being mad just means getting the reaction you want.

It cannot be denied that these Amazing Spider-Man The series had a huge impact on the character of Mary Jane, and many devoted fans who grew up with this iconic superhero couple never get over this painful story. However, it will be interesting to see how the future of Spider-Man comics unfolds when Zeb Wells and John Romita Jr.’s much-criticized series finally ends this October.
The Amazing Spiderman #56 will be available from August 28, 2024.
