Stuart lawyer sues major hotel chains for alleged involvement in sex trafficking; and SLC election official conducts mandatory recount

Fort Pierce – Friday, August 23, 2024: This week in IRSC Public Media’s spotlight: Stuart attorney Travis Walker has filed a major lawsuit against several nationally known hotel chains, accusing them of being involved in child sex trafficking.

He represents a young girl who, according to him, was forced into prostitution by her mother in search of money for drugs.

The major hotels named in the lawsuit include Wyndham Hotels and some of Choice Hotels International’s franchise hotels, notably the Days Inn, Quality Inn and Holiday Inn & Suites in Florida.

The lawsuit also mentions an adult dating website called Backpage and Salesforce, a company that offers software applications for managing customer relationships. It also names several “Johns.” “Johns” are the customers who visit prostitutes.

The 152-page lawsuit was filed on July 17 in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida.

We called attorney Walker to learn more about the lawsuit, how he got involved in the process, and what outcome he hopes for.

We then turn to the question of what led to a virtual tie in Tuesday’s primary for the Republican nomination for St. Lucie County Supervisor of Elections.

That position is currently held by Democrat Gertrude Walker, who has called for a mandatory recount. The Republican challenger who wins that recount will then challenge Walker herself in the November general election.

We reached out to Walker last week to ask her about the recount process and when the winner will be announced.
