Storm King Comics has announced two collections of terrifying, twisted and tantalizing stories entitled “John Carpenter’s Tales for a HalloweeNight,” releasing September 25th.
“There is no name more closely associated with Halloween than John Carpenter, and while the myriad stories in these two graphic novel anthologies are wonderfully varied and eclectic, they all share the unique atmosphere that makes them worthy of the Carpenter name,” said Sandy King, founder and publisher of Storm King Comics.
Celebrating its 10th anniversary, John Carpenter’s Tales for a HalloweeNight Vol. 10 features 12 brand new stories, including an original story called “SOS” from the horror master himself. This new collection is a veritable gangsters’ gallery featuring over 30 of the most creative and innovative writers, artists and colorists in comics today. Challenged by Storm King Comics to let their imaginations run wild with the sole goal of captivating and terrifying readers, this eclectic group of creators has created a spine-tingling gallery of modern horror.
Tales for a HalloweeNight’s writers and artists include Frank Tieri (“Wolverine”) and Cat Staggs (“Smallville”), who have collaborated for more than seven years on stories in which monsters, vampires, ghosts and other terrifying creatures – not all of them supernatural – descend on the streets of Brooklyn.
These dark, grim, and unforgettable tales are collected in a brand new volume: Brooklyn Stories: A Frank Tieri and Cat Staggs Collection, presented under the banner John Carpenter’s Tales for a HalloweeNight. With an introduction by Carpenter, this wide-ranging mix of urban legend and terror also includes a brand new story by Tieri and Staggs that runs throughout the collection. From the New York City blackout of 1977 to the Coney Island fire of 1911 to the Battle of Brooklyn in the Revolutionary War, Tieri’s stories are here to set the record straight on the horrific “truth” behind these familiar events.
“Between these two unique books, every horror fan will find something to disturb and delight them,” King said. “This is the time of year to remember that fear is one of our most basic emotions, it fills every day of our lives and can be a powerful motivator to explore our darker sides.”
The latest titles come at the end of an extraordinary year for Storm King Comics, which saw the growth of a new imprint, Dark & Twisted, with critically acclaimed titles such as Long Haul and The Killing Hole, as well as the widely acclaimed conclusion to the imprint’s two-volume Fetch series, John Carpenter Presents Storm Kids.
