Rotten Tomatoes, the industry’s largest movie review aggregator website, has introduced a new badge to recognize fan-favorite films with the highest scores.
The new Verified Hot badge joins the popular Certified Fresh Tomatometer badge, which is awarded to the most critically acclaimed films, and the newest badge is awarded to films that have received audience-verified ratings of 90% or higher.
“At Rotten Tomatoes, fans love to consult our verified audience score in addition to Tomatometer’s critic score when discovering new movies and deciding what to watch next,” said Amanda Norvell, SVP of direct-to-consumer services at site owner Fandango. “With the addition of Verified Hot, we’re excited to celebrate and spotlight the movies that have been unanimously embraced by fans who have taken the time to share their incredible cinematic experience.”
Rotten Tomatoes is also celebrating the first films to receive the “Verified Hot” rating on the so-called Popcorn Meter. These include some of the biggest new releases of the summer, such as “Deadpool & Wolverine,” “Twisters,” “Bad Boys: Ride or Die,” “Fly Me to the Moon,” “It Ends with Us,” and “Inside Out 2.”
The Verified Hot badge has been retroactively applied to over 200 films with a verified audience rating of 90% or higher since Rotten Tomatoes introduced verified audience ratings in May 2019.
“Top Gun: Maverick” and “The Color Purple,” award-winning classics like “Parasite” and “Oppenheimer,” and box office hits like “Dune: Part Two,” “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire,” and “Spider-Man: No Way Home” all receive the sticker.
Rotten Tomatoes has also made improvements to the audience scores for all of its movies and TV shows, and adjusted the timing of reviews to better reflect the sentiment among fans and critics. Learn more about the changes here.
