In June, we learned that Storm King Comics would be putting a new twist on the classic vampire story with Blood of the Taken, a new graphic novel under the John Carpenter’s Night Terrors label. Ahead of its September release, the publisher released a special preview of the title.
Blood of the Taken is the first graphic novel by author and illustrator Sian Mandrake. The story follows Theo, a 500-year-old undead with maternal instincts. After losing her brood, Theo spends her nights skulking around a small town in Western Massachusetts, searching for the right people to bring back to her nightmarish, crumbling mansion. Theo may have found the perfect match in her lifelong best friends Ed and Liam. But when the two men become ensnared in Theo’s bloody and violent web of intrigue, they learn that escape is not an option—and that Theo has much deeper intentions than simply keeping them as fellow undead. Theo wants a family. The problem is, Ed and Liam aren’t so sure they need it. The kind of family.
“When I discovered how much work Sian had put into a crowdfunded version of this story on her own, I knew Storm King was the perfect place for this exquisite, entertaining and brutal approach,” said Sandy King, founder and publisher of Storm King Comics. “Sian has done nothing less than breathe new life into a classic horror story, and I can’t wait for the world to see this beautiful and compelling book.”
“Blood of the Taken” features lettering by Janice Chiang and will be available directly from Storm King Comics at www.StormKingComics.com starting September 18th. It will be available in comic shops and bookstores starting October 1st.
