One of Portland’s oldest food trucks closes

If you’ve worked, lived, or even shopped in downtown Portland at any point in the last three decades, you’ve probably tried one of their burritos or bowls.

The health-conscious stand has been an unassuming, ubiquitous part of downtown life since it opened in 1994, the food truck equivalent of a Benson Bubbler.

But by year’s end, Fuego Food Carts and its hearty grilled chicken and vegetarian burritos will close.

According to a social media post, “the tough times following the pandemic have made it impossible for (Fuego) to keep the fire burning.”

“For 30 years, we’ve served up stunning flavors and hearty meals and become a beloved part of Portland’s food truck culture,” the post reads. “From our peak with 10 sizzling stands across the city to our current six bustling locations and our mobile food truck, we’ve loved every minute of serving you lunch, especially in downtown Portland.”

Visit Fuego for lunch now through the end of the year at its six remaining locations in Downtown Portland, Northwest Portland, and the Lloyd District. For more information, visit www.fuegofoodcarts.com
