New online program at TSTC aims to guide students into a career in healthcare

Texas State Technical College launches online program for students pursuing careers in healthcare.

The Pre-Allied Health graduate certificate program helps students who want to pursue a career in healthcare but are unsure of which path to take. It also helps students who need preparatory courses for related fields.

Sarah Brooks, TSTC director of alignment and health information technology program team leader, said the program brings students who want to pursue careers in the health field together in a group before they enroll in more specific health-related programs.

Although the program is offered online, Brooks said students can expect extensive support from instructors and receive a variety of learning materials, including lectures, case studies and interactive assignments.

“Students will experience hands-on components such as virtual labs and simulations that enhance their understanding and application of medical concepts,” Brooks said. “In addition, they will receive extensive support from faculty who are available to provide advice and guidance.”

Anatomy and physiology, biology, chemistry and medical terminology are just some of the courses included in the program curriculum.

Eduardo Saldivar, academic team leader for Pre-Allied Health at TSTC, said the program will be offered online to provide flexibility and accessibility to students across Texas.

“We can accommodate the diverse schedules and commitments of our students, many of whom must juggle work, family and other obligations,” Saldivar said. “The online format allows students to access the courses from anywhere, including those in rural communities that do not have local access to such programs.”
