Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said that the recent clashes with Hezbollah in southern Lebanon are “not the end of the story.”
Israel launched a series of nearly 40 airstrikes in southern Lebanon early Sunday in what it called a “preemptive strike” to prevent an imminent drone and missile attack by Hezbollah.
Hezbollah had vowed retaliation for Israel’s killing of one of its top commanders in Beirut last month, but it responded nonetheless, attacking military sites and Iron Dome platforms with over 320 drones and missiles.
In a video message posted on X (formerly Twitter), Netanyahu said the leaders of Hezbollah and Iran should know that the response was “another step towards changing the situation in the north and the safe return of our residents to their homes” and that “this is not the end of the story.”
Israel and Hezbollah have exchanged fire almost daily since Israel launched a retaliatory air and ground war in the Gaza Strip on October 7 after Hamas invaded Israel. The war left 1,200 people dead and more than 250 captured, with about half of them still being held hostage.
Hezbollah chief warns of future attacks
Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah has said that Hezbollah did not use precision missiles in its attacks this morning, but could use them in the near future.
In a lengthy speech, he added that Hezbollah had attacked an Israeli military intelligence base just outside Tel Aviv and ruled out an attack on civilian infrastructure.

Hamas statement following Hezbollah attack on Israel
The militia Hamas, which is also supported by Iran, has published a message in support of Hezbollah’s attack on Israel.
“We commend and bless Hezbollah’s great qualitative response to vital and strategic targets deep inside (Israel).
“We condemn the escalation of the brutal aggression of the occupying power against the Lebanese sister republic, which represents blatant violations of international conventions.
“(Israeli) intransigence reveals once again that it is a rogue country that poses a threat to the region and to international security and stability.”
