Ice-T criticizes a fan who claims “Law and Order: SVU” has become “woke”

Ice-T has had a fascinating career. He was a superstar rapper in the 1980s, but over the past two decades he has been best known for his role in Law & Order: SVU. The guy who once rapped about killing cops has made a second career out of playing a cop. Despite this, Ice-T still has a way with words. He got into a Twitter exchange with an angry SVU Fan on August 27. He didn’t hold back. Ice-T confronted the fan when they criticized Ice-T and the rest of the cast for making the show “woke.”

It all started innocently enough. Ice-T tweeted that he was returning to the set of SVU to start filming new episodes. A follower then asked if the show would go back to normal after what he felt was a lackluster season. “Did they write? SVU “Is this back to normal yet?” they asked. “It started to get woke.” Ice-T then responded with a pretty witty response. “What the f*** is woke?” he tweeted. “Lol like I give a f***.” Why he decided to censor the first f-bomb but not the second is beyond us, but it worked. A second user reinforced the “woke” allegations with a bizarre and specific explanation of what the term means.

Ice-T managed to insult John Wayne in his exchange

“Woke means tearing down my John Wayne statues,” the second user posited. “And forcing me to put up a Spider-Man fountain that sprays gay beer on my lawn and turns it into astroturf.” Ice-T had another hilarious response. “That sounds dope,” he tweeted back. “Fuck John Wayne.” Ice had fun poking fun at the guys in his replies, but he posted a third tweet clarifying his political stance. His stance is that he tries not to get involved in politics in the public space. “I stay out of political sh*t,” he explained. “Like I said… The Blue Vs The Red… To me that’s GangBangin.”

Ice-T has acknowledged the complications of playing a cop while criticizing law enforcement as a whole. He said diversity that he can understand why some fans consider him a hypocrite. “People have said that our TV shows are police propaganda,” he noted. “I understand that argument.” After noting that he is “the opposite” of a cop in real life, Ice-T explained: SVU Creator Dick Wolf hired him to play a cop who goes on strike to do the right thing. “If I play the cop we need,” the rapper noted, “I’m not going to have any problems with it.”
