Arrowhead Studios CCO Johan Pilestedt responded to Helldivers 2 Fans who continue to request that a Review Bomb cape be added to the game say the studio is waiting for “region completion” before releasing the cosmetic item. Helldivers 2 was massively bombarded with criticism in May and fans have been waiting for a commemorative cape ever since, but it looks like they may have to wait a little longer.

PlayStation got into trouble with fans earlier this year when they announced a major change to account linking for Helldivers 2 on PC. The updated requirement would mean that players would have to link their Steam and PSN accounts if they want to continue playing Helldivers 2 on PC, but due to massive outrage from the game’s community, which included a plethora of negative reviews on the game’s Steam page, PlayStation removed this requirement just days after the announcement.

Johan Pilestedt, the studio’s CEO at the time, made a teaser featuring the cape shortly after the fiasco, but there have been very few updates on its release since then. Now, in a new AMA on the Helldivers 2 Discord (spotted by IGN), Pilestedt has given an update on the cloak, saying that it has not been released yet as Arrowhead is “waiting for the region to be finalized” as Helldivers 2 due to the account linking controversy is still unavailable in certain regions.

Before PlayStation removed the account linking requirement, it Helldivers 2 in many regions, as PSN is not available in many places around the world, meaning it would be impossible for those players to link their accounts and play the game. Pilestedt says Arrowhead tried to resolve this issue with PlayStation, but nearly four months later, it still exists.

When asked by a fan on Discord if the cape will ever be released, Pilestedt said that the studio doesn’t want to release it until it has “more clarity on the country issue.” The CCO’s response suggests that the cape is ready for release, but Arrowhead feels that it would be in poor taste to release it while some countries are still unable to play due to the fiasco.


Arrowhead In early August, the game was at the centre of another controversy when fans expressed their dissatisfaction with the Helldivers 2 Escalation of Freedom patch. While the massive update brought a ton of new content for players, it also included many weapon nerfs that fans felt were “unnecessary.” The studio has since responded to the backlash, admitting that it needs to rethink its approach to balance adjustments, but the number of negative reviews that came in due to the update could have led to a second review bomb cape before the first one was even released.
