Harris and Walz target rural voters with working-class voters

As the 2024 election heats up, Vice President Kamala Harris and her running mate Tim Walz are seeking a strategic appeal to rural and blue-collar voters traditionally loyal to Trump. With the goal of narrowing Republican majorities in Republican districts, Walz’s “EveryDad” persona, Midwestern roots and military background are central to the campaign’s efforts to connect with moderate white and blue-collar voters.

The Harris-Walz ticket emphasizes themes such as patriotism, hunting and sports, and seeks to reclaim images often associated with Republicans. The campaign already has a presence in rural swing states such as Wisconsin and Nevada, where Democrats hope to narrow the Republican lead.

Despite criticism from Republicans who call the duo “dangerously liberal,” Harris and Walz insist on successes in infrastructure and health care to appeal to voters in often-overlooked rural communities.
