Love is all around us, or at least that is what Marti Pellow claimed when he wrote the words on the Four weddings and a funeral Soundtrack 25 years ago.
And at reunification A red nose and a wedding, Filmed especially for this year’s Comic Relief, you could still feel that love – for Richard Curtis’ film, for the characters and for the script itself.

The short film, shown in two parts, began with another wedding, this time of Miranda (Lily James) and Faith (Alicia Vikander) – a wedding that completely threw returning priest Father Gerald (Rowan Atkinson) for a loop. But who was this mysterious happy couple? The guests were, after all, a sea of familiar faces. Four Weddings Faces – from Tom (James Fleet) and Matthew (John Hannah) to Bernard (David Haig) and Lydia (Sophie Thompson). Whose children could they be?

The question was quickly answered. In fact, they were the daughters of the original characters Charles (Hugh Grant) and Carrie (Andie MacDowell) – who are still not married – and the apparently single Fiona (Kristin Scott Thomas).
After the “I do” the second half went straight to the reception and of course to Charles’ speech. After joking that he would leave all his money to Fulham football club, brother David (David Bower) stepped in with a handwritten speech that helped the bride’s aimless father out of a jam.
There were many nods to the original film, from the return of Duckface (Anna Chancellor), bringing with her much older third husband, to a musical segment by pop stars Sam Smith and Nicola Walker.
The role of the singing hippie in the original film is actually the first credit on Walker’s IMDb page. Since then, she has been a household name in TV dramas such as Unforgettable And Last Tango in Halifax.
The well-received sketch was just one part of an evening that raised over £63 million for Comic Relief.

The Four weddings and a funeral The concept is currently being rebooted as a TV drama in the US. Mindy Kaling is the driving force behind the project and original writer Richard Curtis will serve as executive producer.
