Recent poll gives Stein a double-digit lead over Robinson in the race for governor in North Carolina

Attorney General Josh Stein, the Democratic candidate for governor, is leading Republican Lieutenant Governor Mark Robinson by 14 percentage points in the hotly watched North Carolina gubernatorial race, according to a new poll from High Point University/SurveyUSA.
The online poll of more than 1,000 registered voters in North Carolina found that 48 percent favored Stein and 34 percent supported Robinson. Eighteen percent said they were undecided.
The High Point poll comes about a week after a New York Times/Sienna College poll showed Stein ahead of Robinson 49 percent to 39 percent. (Read more…)
“Let’s fight for it”: Harris promises to take a new path and defeat Trump

CHICAGO — Vice President Kamala Harris accepted her party’s nomination for president Thursday night, portraying her candidacy as an opportunity for the nation to move forward rather than resigning itself to a bleak future that she said would follow the second-round election of her Republican opponent.
On the final night of the Democratic National Convention, Harris benefited from the largest television audience she is likely to have, at least until her first debate with Republican candidate Donald Trump next month.
The vice president told her life story to the millions of Americans watching, saying it influenced her agenda to strengthen the country’s middle class. (Read more…)

ASHEBORO – Members of the Republican presidential nomination criticized Vice President Kamala Harris over the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan and America’s place on the world stage during a visit to Asheboro on Wednesday.
The event, held outside the North Carolina Aviation Museum, was former President Donald Trump’s first campaign rally since an assassination attempt in Butler, Pennsylvania, last month. Republicans filed a lawsuit against North Carolina’s election board on Thursday, demanding enforcement of a new law that requires cross-checking juror records to remove noncitizens from voter rolls.

A divided North Carolina election board allows the use of UNC-Chapel Hill digital IDs for voting

The State Elections Board, in line with party lines, has decided to allow UNC-Chapel Hill students and staff to use digital IDs to vote.
Most people use their driver’s license as a voter photo ID, but IDs from local election boards, colleges, or state or local government agencies are also acceptable. (Read more…)
NC Housing Finance Agency receives $8 million federal grant to secure housing for people with disabilities

The North Carolina Housing Finance Agency (NCHFA) is one of 18 state housing authorities that recently received an award from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to provide affordable housing for people with disabilities. NCHFA will receive nearly $8 million to help people with disabilities finance affordable, safe housing. The authority will spend the money in the form of rental subsidies for 225 housing units.
