Dodgers notes: Tyler Glasnow Brusdar Graterol rehab, Austin Barnes back

LOS ANGELES – Tyler Glasnow will accompany the Dodgers on their road trip to Arizona and resume his throwing routine on Friday at Chase Field in Phoenix while working on his recovery from elbow tendonitis.

Glasnow last pitched for the Dodgers on Aug. 12, and Wednesday was his first day back from the injured list. But soreness while throwing has made his rehab a slow process, as his elbow isn’t feeling as good as originally hoped.

Given the time missed, Glasnow will need some minor league rehab before returning, and with just over four weeks of the regular season remaining, it becomes a race against the calendar to potentially be ready for the postseason.

It’s a similar position to that of fellow rotation player Yoshinobu Yamamoto, who began a rehab assignment with two innings for Triple-A Oklahoma City on Wednesday night.

But first, Glasnow must throw and then face the batters. That first step will take place on Friday in Phoenix.

“If all goes well, we’ll see where he is at that point,” manager Dave Roberts said Wednesday.

Brusdar Graterol pitched a bullpen session at Dodger Stadium on Wednesday and will likely begin rehab shortly.

“The bullpens are good, the velocity is good, I see no reason not to send him out soon,” Roberts said.

Graterol missed more than four months with shoulder inflammation, then strained his right hamstring and had to be carried off the field in his first game for the Dodgers on Aug. 6. Graterol’s season was thought to be over at the time, but the diagnosis improved enough that he has been able to throw recently, leading to Wednesday’s bullpen session.

“Considering where he was after his first appearance with us and that we’re talking about this in early September, it’s great,” Roberts said. “Brusdar has just been so valuable to us every year and in the postseason.”

Austin Barnes completed simulated at-bats against minor league players for the second straight day at Dodger Stadium on Wednesday and is expected to come off the injured list on Thursday, his first day of eligibility.

Barnes was placed on the injured list on August 19 because of a fracture of his left big toe. Roberts said Barnes would start in the series finale against the Orioles.
