Could Michigan Football sign a top-notch cornerback from Auburn?

It was not a good week for the Michigan football team in the search for new players, as the Wolverines lost their top-ranked player for the 2025 class to Auburn.

This is Nate Marshall, the 49th recruit of the 2025 class, a 6-foot-4, 250-pound defensive lineman who committed in April but then traded to the Tigers.

It happens. It’s not the end of the world, as I laid out this week, but it certainly hurts. However, the Wolverines are working on some flips of their own, particularly at the cornerback position, and one of the flip targets they’re most eyeing is four-star cornerback Donovan Starr of Auburn.

Starr is from Brentwood, Tennessee. He is 6-foot-4, 175 pounds and is ranked 416th in the Class of 2025 according to 247 Sports’ overall rankings.

Starr committed to Auburn in June. Clemson was also involved, but the Tigers have a lot of cornerbacks in the 2025 class and, according to EJ Holland of The Wolverine, Michigan is pushing to trade Starr.

That effort could be bolstered by a visit in the fall. It appears Michigan football isn’t the only program interested in the star, but according to Holland, the Wolverines should get a visit in the fall.

Starr runs the 100 meters in 10.56 seconds. That’s dynamic, especially for a 6’1 guy. Ravenwood is also a familiar place for Michigan football, which brought in current cornerback Myles Pollard from there, as well as Junior Colson, who was a two-season starter and now plays for Jim Harbaugh with the LA Chargers.

Visits are often powerful in recruiting, and a visit from Starr to campus would be a sign that the Michigan football team has a real chance of turning around blue-chip Auburn.
