Members of the Los Angeles Chargers roster, as well as some team employees, were stranded in an elevator at the team hotel in Dallas for some time Friday night. The team is in town to play in a preseason game against the Dallas Cowboys, its last game before the regular season begins in just over two weeks. Fortunately, Dallas Fire and Emergency Services were able to rescue the stranded Chargers employees, according to a team press release on X (formerly Twitter).
It was certainly an unexpected surprise for members of the Chargers organization. The team is preparing for the first season of the Jim Harbaugh/Joe Hortiz era and is looking to get back on track and be a consistent postseason contender. While getting stuck in an elevator probably wasn’t an option for the stranded personnel, the most important thing is that they were rescued in time and are safe as the team tries to win its final preseason game against the Cowboys on Saturday.

While it is unknown which players and personnel were trapped in the elevator, the Chargers must now focus on Saturday’s game against the Cowboys. Even though it is a preseason game, it is still an important one in the eyes of the organization. It is important for Hortiz, Harbaugh and the coaching staff to figure out which players can contribute to the team and which are useful substitutes.
However, most, if not all, of the regulars will not play on Saturday. Quarterbacks Easton Stick and Luis Perez will be vying for who will be the replacement for starting quarterback Justin Herbert. The franchise general has missed most of training camp and the preseason due to injury, but should be back in time for Week 1. After Friday’s elevator incident, a win over the Cowboys would be a welcome reprieve for the Chargers. Plus, it would be a good starting point for what the team hopes will be a strong first season under the Harbaugh-Hortiz tandem.
