Several Los Angeles Chargers players and members of their traveling party in Dallas, where the team is preparing for a preseason game against the Cowboys, had to be rescued from a stuck hotel elevator on Friday night.
The Chargers said in a statement that at around 7:30 p.m. local time, the Dallas Fire Department helped all occupants safely exit the elevator through a ceiling panel into an adjacent elevator.
According to Dallas Fire-Rescue Zachary Yanes of WFAA in Dallas-Fort Worth, a total of 15 people associated with the Chargers – players and members of the team’s travel party – were trapped when the elevator became stuck in a “dead shaft” between floors of the hotel.
Since the fire department’s attempts to restore the elevator to working order were unsuccessful, the Urban Search and Rescue team was called.
ESPN’s Kris Rhim reported that Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh invited Dallas Fire-Rescue personnel to dinner in the team’s dining room after everyone was rescued.
The Chargers traveled to Dallas after practice on Thursday for their final game of the season against the Cowboys. The two teams will play at 1 p.m. ET on Saturday at AT&T Stadium.
