The Helldivers 2 The community is currently locked down against a Major Order that requires them to kill 750,000,000 Terminids and 500,000 Bile Titans. At the time of writing, players have only managed to complete over 50% of that, but one type of bug is making life particularly difficult: Chargers.
Terminids are definitely the easiest of the two factions currently Helldivers 2 for players fighting in missions. However, Chargers, the heavily armored tanks of the Termind series, hunt players, ram them while they’re standing still, and generally mess up anyone’s plans. Since the current Major Order requires players to focus so heavily on Terminid missions, players are sharing their frustrations with these behemoths as well as strategies for dealing with them.
Death to all chargers
Fans on the Helldivers 2 There’s been more frustration than usual shared on the subreddit about Chargers because so many of us are doing Terminid missions. This post by Sad-Needleworker-590 sums up many of the issues I’ve been having.
Chargers have absolutely no business climbing vertical cliffs, especially when we see them just falling off said cliffs. Also, this enemy hits so hard that it will destroy any kind of weapon emplacement like machine guns, so unless a teammate can help you take them out before they reach you, you’ll have to get out before the ensuing explosion.
Instead of sharing his worries about Chargers, user Unoriginal_Burner shared a strategy for dealing with them. He shows how the Aurburst Rocket Launcher, a heavy weapon stratagem you can request in missions, can take out a Charger before it reaches you. This weapon is deadly in the wrong hands, killing teammates or the user. But in this case, it removes the biggest barrier to killing Terminids Helldivers 2 has to offer, so it should be an indispensable stratagem for the current main order.
Chargers were not such a big problem in Helldivers 2 until the Escalation of Freedom update changed how fire damage worked in the game. Since then, the weapon best used against Chargers, the Flamethrower, hasn’t been nearly as effective, giving Chargers a huge advantage in missions on Helldiver or the new Super Helldive difficulty.
Considering that players have managed to destroy 100 million Terminids in 3 hours in the past, the current Major Order shouldn’t be too much of a problem. Players have the entire weekend to complete it and that usually brings a big boost in player numbers. My only issue with the Major Order is that it’s more of the same because Arrowhead Game Studios still hasn’t addressed the exploits hackers use to destroy the other types of objectives the developer could give us.
