The Mississippi Development Authority announced Wednesday that aerospace manufacturer Aurora Flight Sciences is expanding in Columbus.

The project represents a $43.8 million investment that will create 63 new jobs by the end of 2025.

Luke Colville, vice president of manufacturing at Aurora Flight Sciences, said in a statement that the company is proud to make this investment to the community.

“Since coming to Mississippi in 2005, our manufacturing business has grown exponentially. This success would not have been possible without the hard work and dedication of the Aurora team members here in Columbus,” said Colville. “We are grateful for our incredible employees and for the continued support of local organizations like the Mississippi Development Authority and Golden Triangle Development LINK.”

The company opened its Columbus facility in 2005. As a subsidiary of Boeing, Aurora Flight Sciences designs, builds and flies cutting-edge aircraft and enabling technologies for commercial and military applications.

According to MDA, Aurora is expanding its existing Aerosystems manufacturing facility by adding 4,600 square meters of new manufacturing space. The company is also renovating 3,700 square meters, adding new equipment and machinery, and improving its automated fiber placement technology.

Governor Tate Reeves (R) said Aurora Flight Sciences’ investment is further proof that Mississippi is an excellent location for cutting-edge aerospace manufacturing.

“The Golden Triangle region is a hotspot for aerospace excellence, and its influx of experienced professionals ensures that companies like Aurora Flight Sciences remain at the forefront of the industry,” said Reeves. “Congratulations to the Aurora team on this latest expansion, and I wish them many more years of success in Lowndes County.”

MDA notes that the agency is providing support through the Mississippi Flexible Tax Incentive (MFLEX) program and that AccelerateMS and Lowndes County are supporting the project.
