The Greek capital and the city of Thessaloniki have decided to expand their municipal waste fleets with a number of Fuso eCanter electric trucks. In total, the two cities have ordered 89 electric trucks from Fuso, equipped with truck bodies for garbage collection from Kaoussis. According to the press release, the truck bodies are equipped with rotating drum compaction technology and will be used mainly for the collection of organic waste.
The interior of the vehicles is equipped with modern amenities, so the driver can monitor operations, carry out diagnostics and access statistics via a 5.7-inch touchscreen in the driver’s cab to ensure safe operation. The trucks are also built according to the EN 1501 safety standard for garbage trucks, as Antonios Evangeloulis, Sales and Marketing Director of the Greek importer and general agent for Daimler Truck products and services Star Automotive Hellas, points out: “(…) the body is the first in Europe to meet all standards for operation with standing personnel. This shows that we can also solve major technical challenges and implement complex bodies even on an electric eCanter.”
Florian Schulz, Head of Sales, Marketing and Customer Service, explains the practical suitability of the eCanter as a garbage truck: “Thanks to its compact dimensions and high chassis load capacity, the electric eCanter is ideal for waste disposal companies that operate on narrow streets. In addition, the vehicle is locally emission-free and quiet, which enables garbage collection in densely populated areas even early in the morning. This makes it particularly suitable for municipal use.”
Another interesting application for the Fuso eCanter was recently tested in Japan. There, the courier service Yamato Transport tested a battery exchange system. The basic trucks themselves also underwent a comprehensive update in May of this year.
