Asia’s first offshore wind service vessels delivered to further advance deep-sea energy cogeneration exploration

SHANGHAI, 21 August 2024 /PRNewswire/ — Shanghai Electric Wind Power Group, a subsidiary of Shanghai Electric (SEHK:2727, SSE:601727), received Asia first offshore wind power service and operation vessels (SOVs), Zhizhen 100 and Zhicheng 60, recently in Qidong, China Province. The motherships built by Zhenhua Heavy Industries can carry out continuous operation and maintenance work in deep-water and offshore wind farms, which can solve the problems in China’s Typical characteristics of currently used sea transport vessels include short time windows, inability to operate continuously, frequent round trips, low efficiency and poor performance in rough sea conditions.

Liu Xiangnan, Vice President of Shanghai Electric Wind Power Groupcommented: “These two offshore wind power service and operation vessels combine efficient operation and maintenance, environmentally friendly and intelligent operation and maintenance and are important carriers for the future-oriented structure of deep-sea electric wind power, which will support the high-quality development of China’s Operation and maintenance capacities for offshore wind turbines.”

The specifications for Zhizhen 100 and Zhicheng 60 are different:

  • The Zhizhen 100 has an overall length of 93.4 meters, a beam of 18 meters, a draft of 7.6 meters and a designed service speed of 12.3 knots.
  • The Zhicheng 60 has an overall length of 72.76 meters, a beam of 17.5 meters, a draft of 7 meters and a designed service speed of 12 knots.

The two SOVs delivered are designed for efficient, sustainable, smart and safe maintenance. They are both equipped with the DP2 dynamic positioning system, have a large cargo hold with space for heavy wind turbine spare parts and have a self-sustainability capacity of over 30 days.

  • The Zhizhen 100 and Zhicheng 60 are equipped with an active wave compensation pier that mitigates hull displacement caused by waves, enabling efficient personnel and spare parts transport as well as wind farm maintenance even in rough sea conditions.
  • They feature a folding boom offshore crane, work boat, boarding frame and aluminum alloy helicopter platform.
  • They are powered by a diesel-electric and lithium battery hybrid system with fully electric propulsion and DC busbar distribution and have the hybrid propulsion and environmentally friendly ship classifications certified by the China Classification Society (CCS).
  • An advanced intelligent operating system improves maintenance efficiency, reduces labor intensity and thus extends the operating window.

“As a pioneer, leader and builder of China’s Offshore wind energy, Shanghai Electric Wind Power Group is heavily involved in the development and growth of China’s Offshore wind energy and responded actively to the needs of the China’s The development of offshore wind energy in the deep sea will be promoted,” said Liu.
