Amy Dowden became emotional as she spoke about the online trolling she experienced after opening up about her breast cancer diagnosis.
Dowden, who was diagnosed with the disease in May 2023, will soon be in a new BBC Documentary film to be released in August 2023.
While recounting her struggles in the documentary, she said she found it difficult to “control her emotions” due to the “harsh messages” she received online.
In clips from The mirrorshe admitted that sometimes she “wished she hadn’t opened up publicly to her fans during this difficult time.”
Dowden said she would like to see “the most extreme trolls prosecuted as I understand how teenagers take their lives as a result of online bullying.”
She added: “If someone bullies someone online and commits suicide, that’s something like manslaughter. Will there be a punishment to stop people from doing that? It’s terrible.”
She described the effects of online bullying and also said that the steroids sometimes kept her awake late at night.
Dowden continued: “I was so devastated and then to receive this news was heartbreaking. I just feel like it’s not being talked about.”
